PS5 HDMI Port Repair: No Signal, Bent Pins and What Causes Them

Your PS5 powers on but the TV says no signal. Before blaming the console, rule out the easy causes, then learn what a real HDMI port repair involves.

The white light comes on, the fan spins up, but your TV just says "No Signal." It is one of the most common PlayStation 5 problems we see, and it is very often caused by a damaged HDMI port. Before you assume the worst, though, there are a few quick checks worth doing. Here is how to tell whether you need a PS5 HDMI port repair, what causes the damage and how the repair is done.

Rule out the easy causes first

  1. Check the TV input. Make sure the TV is set to the HDMI input the PS5 is plugged into. Try a different HDMI input on the TV.
  2. Swap the HDMI cable. Cables fail more often than people think. Use the cable that came with the console or another high-speed HDMI cable you know works.
  3. Remove anything in between. If you use a receiver, soundbar or HDMI switch, connect the PS5 straight to the TV for testing.
  4. Try another TV or monitor. This tells you whether the problem follows the console.
  5. Use Safe Mode to reset the video output. With the console off, hold the power button until you hear a second beep. Connect a controller with a USB cable and press the PS button. From the Safe Mode menu, choose the option to change the video output or resolution. If you see Safe Mode on screen, the HDMI port is working, and the problem is a settings or compatibility issue.

If none of this gives you a picture on any screen, the HDMI port or the video circuit inside the console is the likely culprit.

Signs your PS5 HDMI port is damaged

  • The cable feels loose or wobbly in the port, or will not click in firmly.
  • The picture cuts in and out when the cable is touched or the console is moved.
  • You can see bent, flattened or missing pins inside the port (use a flashlight).
  • The metal shell of the port is pushed in, tilted or cracked.
  • No signal on any TV, with any cable, even in Safe Mode.

What causes HDMI port damage

The HDMI port is soldered directly to the PS5's motherboard, so any force on the cable goes straight into the solder joints and the tiny pins inside. The most common causes we see are:

  • Tripping over the cable or pulling the console off a shelf by the cable.
  • Moving the console while it is plugged in, for example when cleaning or rearranging the entertainment unit.
  • Inserting the plug at an angle or upside down, which bends pins.
  • Transporting the console with the cable attached.
  • Previous unsuccessful repairs that left damaged solder pads.

Sometimes the port looks perfect but the console still has no video. In those cases, a component on the board that handles the video signal may have failed, which also needs board-level repair.

How a PS5 HDMI port is repaired

This is not a plug-in part. The console is opened, the motherboard removed, and the damaged port is desoldered and replaced with a new one. It is precise work: the port has many tiny pins, and the pads underneath must be in good condition for a reliable connection. That is why it is done with professional micro soldering equipment, under magnification.

After the new port is installed, the console is tested on a display to confirm video and audio. We also check the surrounding components to make sure nothing else was damaged.

A word of caution: we strongly advise against trying this at home. Heat applied in the wrong place can damage the board, and lifted pads make the repair far harder. The PS5 also uses liquid metal as its thermal material, which needs careful handling whenever the console is fully taken apart.

How to prevent it happening again

  • Leave some slack in the HDMI cable and route it so it cannot be tripped over.
  • Unplug the HDMI cable before moving the console.
  • Insert the plug straight, never at an angle.
  • Keep the console where it has good airflow; read our tips for a PS5 that is overheating or loud.

Quick answers

Can a PS5 HDMI port be fixed?

Yes. A damaged HDMI port can be desoldered from the motherboard and replaced with a new one using micro soldering equipment.

How do I know if it is the cable or the port?

Try a known-good cable and another TV. If there is still no picture, even in Safe Mode, and the port looks or feels damaged, the port is the likely cause.

Can I replace the PS5 HDMI port myself?

We do not recommend it. It requires precise soldering on the motherboard, and mistakes can cause damage that is much harder to repair.
