Common Google Pixel Problems and How They're Repaired

Cracked screens, tired batteries, charging faults and camera glass: the Pixel problems we see most often and how each one gets fixed.

Google Pixel phones are known for great cameras and clean software, and many owners keep them for years. That's exactly why the same handful of problems keeps coming up as they age. If you're searching for Google Pixel repair in Ottawa, chances are your phone has one of the issues below.

For each one, we'll cover the symptoms, what you can try yourself, and what a repair involves.

Cracked or unresponsive screen

Pixels use OLED displays where the glass, touch layer and display are bonded together. A crack in the glass often damages the panel underneath too, causing black spots, lines, flicker or dead touch areas.

  • Glass cracked but everything works: you can keep using it carefully, but cracks spread and sharp edges can cut. A good screen protector over a small crack may buy time.
  • Lines, black areas or ghost touches: the display panel is damaged and needs replacing.

One Pixel-specific detail: on models with an under-display fingerprint sensor, the sensor needs to be set up again after a screen replacement. A good shop will check fingerprint unlock works before handing your phone back, and you may need to re-enrol your fingerprint.

Battery draining fast or swelling

Every lithium-ion battery wears out. After a couple of years of daily charging you may notice the phone dying by mid-afternoon, shutting off at 15–20%, or slowing down.

  1. Open the battery section in Settings to see which apps use the most power.
  2. Turn on Battery Saver and Adaptive Battery if they're off.
  3. Lower screen brightness and screen timeout.

If none of that helps, the battery is likely worn. Our guide to fixing fast battery drain goes deeper. A swollen battery is a different story: if the screen is lifting or the back is bulging, stop charging the phone and have the battery replaced promptly. Never press on it or try to puncture it.

Charging problems

If your Pixel charges slowly, only at an angle, or not at all, start simple:

  1. Try another USB-C cable and wall adapter.
  2. Power off and look into the port with a flashlight. Gently remove lint with a wooden toothpick, never metal.
  3. Test wireless charging if your model supports it. If wireless works but the cable doesn't, the port is the likely culprit.

A worn charging port can be replaced. If a new port doesn't solve it, the fault may be on the board, which calls for micro soldering. For a full checklist, see Android phone not charging.

Camera glass, back glass and other parts

Several Pixel models have a camera bar across the back. Its cover glass can crack from a drop, leading to hazy or blurry photos, especially in bright light. Often the cover glass can be replaced without touching the camera modules. If photos are blurry even with intact glass, or the camera app shows a black screen, the camera module itself may need replacing.

Other repairs we see on Pixels include:

  • Back glass cracks, which can let moisture and dust in.
  • Speaker and microphone issues, often caused by debris in the grilles or liquid exposure.
  • Buttons that stick or stop clicking.
  • No power or boot loops, which can come from a failed battery, a software issue or a board fault.

Repair or replace your Pixel?

If the rest of the phone is in good condition and it still gets software updates, a screen, battery or port repair is usually far better value than a new phone, and it keeps a working device out of the landfill. If the phone is very old or has several problems at once, we'll tell you honestly. You can also sell us a broken Pixel instead of letting it sit in a drawer.

Quick answers

Will my Pixel's fingerprint sensor work after a screen replacement?

On models with an under-display sensor, the sensor needs to be set up again after the new screen is installed. We check it before returning your phone, and you may need to re-enrol your fingerprint.

Can you replace just the cracked camera glass on a Pixel?

Often yes. If the camera itself works, the cover glass over the camera bar can usually be replaced on its own.

How long does a Pixel repair take?

Most repairs, such as screens, batteries and charging ports, are completed the same day, depending on parts availability.
